Big Untold story of Philadelphia Eagles Coaches

A football team’s success is often dependent on the coaching decisions made by the coaches on staff. This article will delve into a few of the Philadelphia Eagles Coaches who have been with the Philadelphia Eagles, from their first coach in 1933 to their current head coach, Doug Pederson.

Philadelphia Eagles Coaches Who Were There From The Beginning

The Philadelphia Eagles have had a number of Philadelphia Eagles Coaches over the years. Their first coach was Lud Wray, who coached for two seasons. He led them to a 5-8-1 record in 1933 and 1934. Their next head coach was Bert Bell from 1936 to 1949, and he led them to three championships. The Eagles then went through a long line of coaches who took them from competing for the championship to competing for the playoffs. They had a period of struggling with coaches that didn’t work out, but they finally found success when they hired Dick Vermeil in 1976.

The Coaches Who Led A Championship Team

One of the most successful Philadelphia Eagles coaches is Dick Vermeil. The former Los Angeles Rams head coach led the Eagles to their first and only Super Bowl victory in 1980. Vermeil coached the Eagles for four seasons, from 1976-79. He was also head coach for five seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, leading them to a Super Bowl appearance in 1969 and winning two AFL championships.

Another championship coach who was an NFL legend is Andy Reid. The man who is currently coaching the Kansas City Chiefs started his career with the Philadelphia Eagles as an assistant coach in 1999. After serving three years under defensive coordinator Jim Johnson, Reid became defensive backs coach and then became assistant head coach to bring some stability in 2003 when Johnson passed away due to cancer. Reid then took over as head coach after Bill Cowher declined Philadelphia’s offer, making him one of just 13 African-Americans coaches to lead an NFL team at that time.
